Shimla Faces Intense Heatwave with Record High Temperatures
IN · Published May 21, 2026
Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with both daytime and nighttime temperatures soaring above seasonal norms.
According to Live Hindustan, the city's minimum temperature has reached 20.5°C (68.9°F), which is 5°C (9°F) higher than the average for this time of year.
The maximum temperature in some areas of the state has been recorded at 43.4°C (110.1°F).

Why It's Important?

The ongoing heatwave poses significant risks to public health, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heatstroke. Additionally, the heatwave is impacting daily life, with reduced outdoor activities and increased demand for water and electricity. Agricultural activities may also suffer due to the extreme heat, potentially affecting crop yields.
