• continues to face flash flood risks following days of heavy rainfall.

Impact & Risks

Flooding has already caused significant damage in parts of New Mexico, with the San Juan River overflowing its banks and affecting neighborhoods in Shiprock. The saturated ground across the Southwest means even moderate rainfall could lead to rapid flash flooding, posing risks to residents and infrastructure. In the Southeast, high-tide flooding and rough surf are expected to impact coastal communities, with waves up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) and strong rip currents creating hazardous conditions for swimmers and boaters.
