• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intermittent rainfall and light snowfall in Himachal Pradesh from 29 October to 31 October
• The weather activity is expected to primarily affect districts such as Sirmaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, and the Spiti region. Higher elevations in Kullu and Kinnaur are likely to experience light snowfall during this period. The weather system is attributed to the remnants of a cyclonic storm that recently made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast and is now moving north-northwest while weakening. The state has already recorded approximately 15% excess rainfall since the monsoon withdrawal on 1 October, with 28 mm of rainfall compared to the usual 24.6 mm for this period.

Impact & Risks

The expected rainfall and snowfall may lead to temporary disruptions in daily activities, particularly in the affected districts. Higher elevations in Kullu, Kinnaur, and Spiti could experience light snowfall, which may impact transportation and outdoor activities. A thunderstorm alert has been issued for lower and adjoining areas, including Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, and Mandi districts, for 29 and 30 October. However, no warnings for heavy rainfall or snowfall have been issued, and the overall impact is expected to be moderate.
