The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory for the Southwest U.S., where daytime highs are expected to reach 110-115°F (43-46°C) through Friday.
While heat across the southern Plains is forecast to ease to near-normal levels by late week, it is expected to return next week.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat in the Southwest poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. In the Northeast, the risk of severe thunderstorms could result in localized damage from strong winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes, potentially impacting infrastructure and travel. Residents in affected areas should remain vigilant and prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
