ISRO Launches EOS-05, India's First Geosynchronous Earth Observation Satellite

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the Earth Observation Satellite-05 (EOS-05) aboard the GSLV-F17 launch vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
This satellite is India's first dedicated imaging satellite designed to operate from a geosynchronous orbit.

Impact & Risks

The EOS-05 satellite is expected to enhance disaster management efforts by providing near real-time data on rapidly changing weather events. This will improve early warning systems and emergency response for hazards like cyclones, flash floods, and forest fires. Additionally, the satellite will support agriculture, environmental monitoring, and national security through continuous surveillance. The geosynchronous orbit allows the satellite to observe nearly one-third of the globe, ensuring persistent coverage of critical areas. However, the success of the mission depends on the satellite's ability to maintain its orbit and deliver accurate data.
