An Indian Army contingent has departed for Surat Thani, Thailand, to participate in the 15th edition of the India-Thailand joint military exercise, MAITREE-XV.
Scheduled from August 18 to 31, 2026, the exercise will involve 85 personnel each from the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army.

Impact & Risks

The exercise strengthens India-Thailand military ties, fostering better coordination in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. It also provides an opportunity for both armies to share operational experiences and modern technologies. However, such exercises may draw scrutiny from neighboring countries, potentially influencing regional security dynamics. The focus on jungle and semi-urban terrains highlights the importance of preparedness for unconventional warfare scenarios.
