An oppressive heat wave has prompted the National Weather Service to issue an Extreme Heat Warning for the Tallahassee area and surrounding regions in the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend.
Heat index values, which factor in humidity, are expected to reach between 110°F and 117°F (43°C to 47°C) in warning areas.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as older adults, individuals without air conditioning, and those experiencing homelessness. Heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, are a major concern. Outdoor workers and event organizers are advised to take precautions. Pets are also at risk due to dehydration and exposure to high temperatures. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours and stay hydrated.
