Texas Kicks Off June with Triple-Digit Heat Index
US · Published Jun 1, 2026
The first day of meteorological summer in Texas is bringing intense heat, with temperatures starting in the upper 90s°F (mid-30s°C).
According to CBS News, the heat index is expected to reach 100°F (38°C), marking a sweltering start to June.
While the region is experiencing predominantly dry conditions, there is a slight chance of rain midweek, which could provide some temporary relief.

Why It's Important?

The high heat index poses risks for heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Outdoor workers and individuals engaging in strenuous activities are also at increased risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. The elevated temperatures may strain local energy grids as residents rely on air conditioning to stay cool. Additionally, the dry conditions could increase the risk of wildfires in some areas.
