Yellow Alert Issued for Seven Districts in Kerala Amid Rain Forecast
IN · Published Oct 21, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that parts of Kerala are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds due to weather systems in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. A well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Arabian Sea is moving west-northwestwards, away from Kerala's coast, but its associated circulation is expected to bring isolated heavy rainfall to the state. Additionally, two low-pressure systems are forecast to develop in the Bay of Bengal over the next three days, with the first forming within 24 hours and the second by 23 October
• These systems, while not directly impacting Kerala's coast, are expected to influence moisture and wind patterns, resulting in widespread rainfall across the state over the next four days.

Impact & Risks

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for seven districts in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected within the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms and lightning pose risks to life and property, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and flash floods. Gusty winds accompanying the storms may also lead to damage to weak structures, trees, and power lines. Residents in the affected areas should remain cautious and avoid venturing into open spaces during lightning activity.
