Farmers in Trichy district, Tamil Nadu, are being trained to tackle potential drought conditions caused by the anticipated Super El Niño.
Experts from ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Sirugamani, in collaboration with the agriculture and farmers’ welfare department, have developed a contingency plan.

Impact & Risks

The El Niño phenomenon poses a significant risk to agriculture in Trichy, potentially leading to reduced crop yields and financial losses for farmers. The district, identified as one of 12 vulnerable areas, could face prolonged dry spells and delayed monsoons. Without adequate preparedness, the drought could exacerbate rural distress, affecting food security and the local economy.
