Cutting into steep slopes during road construction can destabilise terrain, especially in areas with complex geological and hydrological conditions. Without adequate stabilisation and drainage, surface runoff during heavy rains can lead to erosion and slope failures. Studies have shown that road widening and construction significantly increase landslide susceptibility in high-risk zones.
