The study found that local temperatures in July and August were about 1.5°C warmer, a change attributed to human-caused climate change. Additionally, glaciers in the region have been thinning by approximately 1.6 feet annually. These changes weaken the structural integrity of ice and rock, making them more prone to collapse. While climate change is not the sole cause, it acts as a destabilising factor on pre-existing geological vulnerabilities.
