India faces significant water scarcity challenges due to uneven rainfall distribution and increasing demand for water in agriculture, residential, and industrial sectors. Public water-conservation programmes, building bylaw requirements, and agricultural water-security needs are driving the adoption of RWH systems. According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Phase 1 initiative successfully delivered 27.6 lakh rainwater recharge and harvesting structures, exceeding its target of 10 lakh.
