Start preparations as soon as a hurricane watch is issued. Fill your gas tank and any jerricans, check tire pressure and tread depth, and top off all fluids, including engine oil and coolant. Inspect your battery and windshield wipers to ensure they’re in good condition. Document the vehicle’s condition with photos and videos for insurance purposes. Move your car to higher ground or a covered shelter, away from trees and low-lying areas. If you drive a truck, clear the bed of loose items to prevent them from becoming projectiles in high winds.
