Learn about the Air Quality Index (AQI), what it measures, and how to protect yourself during poor air quality days.

How to Interpret AQI Levels

The AQI is divided into six color-coded categories, each representing a different level of health concern. Green (0-50) indicates good air quality, while yellow (51-100) is moderate, posing minimal risk to most people. Orange (101-150) is unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as those with asthma or heart conditions. Red (151-200) is unhealthy for everyone, and purple (201-300) is very unhealthy. Maroon (301 and above) represents hazardous air quality, where everyone is at risk of adverse health effects.
