Dengue is not spread directly from person to person. Instead, it is transmitted when an infected mosquito bites a person and later bites another individual, passing on the virus. Aedes mosquitoes thrive in warm, humid conditions and can breed in small amounts of stagnant water, such as in flowerpots, discarded tyres, or water containers. These mosquitoes are active during the day, making it essential to take precautions even outside dusk and dawn hours.
