Historically, Naegleria fowleri was found in warm regions like southern US states, Pakistan, and Australia. However, climate change is causing lakes and ponds to warm, allowing the amoeba to expand into previously cooler areas. Cases have recently been reported in northern US states, Italy, Belgium, and even Slovakia. The organism has also been found in unexpected locations such as indoor surfing facilities and splash pads, raising concerns about its growing range.
