Studies show that ocean temperatures in the Indian Ocean have risen by 1°C between 1951 and 2015, leading to more frequent extreme weather events. This has resulted in shorter periods of intense rainfall and longer dry spells, causing floods, soil erosion, and droughts. Such changes are particularly concerning for regions like the Indo-Gangetic plains, which produce nearly half of India's agricultural output but have seen significant rainfall reductions in recent years.
