Hydroplaning occurs when your tyres lose traction on the road due to a layer of water, causing your vehicle to slide uncontrollably. This can happen with as little as one-twelfth of an inch of water and speeds over 35 mph. To avoid hydroplaning, slow down during rain and ensure your tyres are in good condition. If you do hydroplane, ease off the accelerator and steer straight until control is regained.
