WHO Warns of Heat-Related Risks Amid Rising Global Temperatures
US · Published Jun 12, 2026
The World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted the growing threat of heat-related illnesses as global temperatures continue to rise.
Over 200,000 heat-related deaths have been reported across Europe in the past four years, many of which were preventable.

Why It's Important?

Heatwaves pose severe health risks, including heat exhaustion and life-threatening heat stroke. Vulnerable groups, such as older adults, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions, are disproportionately affected. Urban and rural poor populations face additional challenges due to inadequate housing and limited access to cooling amenities. The WHO stresses the need for immediate action to prevent further fatalities and reduce the strain on healthcare systems.
