Coppertone Water Babies Lotion SPF 50 Earns Top Score in Consumer Reports Test

Consumer Reports has released its annual sunscreen ratings, evaluating over 100 products, including lotions and sprays, for their effectiveness in protecting against harmful UV rays.
The tests measure SPF (sun protection factor) by applying sunscreen to small skin areas and exposing them to UVB rays, which cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer.
Water-resistant products are also tested after being soaked for up to 80 minutes.

Why It's Important?

The findings highlight the importance of using sunscreen to reduce the risk of skin cancer and premature aging caused by UV exposure. Products with lower-than-advertised SPF may provide less protection than expected, increasing vulnerability to sunburn and long-term skin damage. Spray sunscreens, while convenient, pose risks of uneven application and inhalation. Broad-spectrum sunscreens with at least SPF 30 are recommended for effective protection.
