Climate Resilience Lags in Food Industry Strategies

A recent report from Lumina Intelligence highlights a significant gap in climate resilience planning within the global food and beverage industry.
While 54% of senior leaders and decision-makers across the sector recognize the importance of climate resilience, only 6% have integrated it into their corporate strategies.

Impact & Risks

The lack of comprehensive climate resilience strategies poses risks to the food and beverage industry, including supply chain disruptions, raw material price spikes, and economic losses from weather-related disasters. Between 1980 and 2024, weather and climate extremes caused an estimated €822 billion in economic losses, with a quarter of that occurring between 2021 and 2024. Companies that fail to address climate risks may face increased regulatory pressures and operational challenges. The report warns that treating climate resilience as an external issue or offloaded expense could exacerbate these risks, leaving businesses vulnerable to mounting climate threats.
