A breathtaking timelapse video of the Southern Lights, also known as the Aurora Australis, has been captured from space.
According to the BBC, the footage showcases the vibrant and dynamic light display as seen from a satellite orbiting Earth.

Why It's Important?

The Southern Lights are primarily visible in high-latitude regions near the South Pole, such as Antarctica, southern parts of New Zealand, and Tasmania. While the phenomenon itself poses no direct risks, it serves as a reminder of the sun's influence on Earth's magnetic field. In extreme cases, solar storms that cause auroras can disrupt satellite communications and power grids. However, no such disruptions were reported in relation to this event.
