Consumer Reports Reveals Top Sunscreens for 2026
US · Published May 20, 2026
Consumer Reports has released its annual sunscreen ratings for 2026, evaluating over 100 products, including lotions and sprays.
The tests assessed both SPF (sun protection factor) and UVA protection, which are critical for preventing sunburn, skin aging, and skin cancer.
Coppertone Water Babies Lotion SPF 50 achieved a perfect overall score, while Eucerin Advanced Hydration Spray SPF 50 topped the spray category.

Why It's Important?

The findings emphasize the importance of using sunscreen to protect against harmful UVB and UVA rays, which can cause sunburn, premature aging, and increase the risk of skin cancer. Products that fail to meet their SPF claims may provide less protection than expected, potentially leaving users vulnerable to UV damage. Spray sunscreens, while convenient, carry risks of uneven application and inhalation, particularly in windy conditions. Ensuring proper application and choosing highly rated products can mitigate these risks and enhance safety during outdoor activities.
