The report underscores significant risks to homeowners in coastal and low-lying areas, where storm surge and flooding can cause extensive damage. With 61.8% of homes in coastal flood zones below the 100-year base flood elevation, these properties are particularly vulnerable. Additionally, nearly 1.69 million homes in high-risk inland zones are also below this elevation. Homeowners outside mandatory flood insurance zones may face unexpected repair costs, as $405.5 billion worth of properties are exposed to hurricane-driven flooding. The report estimates annual losses of $1.73 billion from storm surge and rainfall flooding, highlighting the financial and structural risks posed by hurricanes.
