CDC Highlights Dengue Risk in Popular Travel Destinations
US · Published May 19, 2026
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued updated guidance on dengue risk for travelers.
As of May 2026, dengue remains a common disease in tropical and subtropical regions, including the Americas, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands.
While no countries currently meet the high transmission criteria for travelers, sporadic outbreaks continue to occur.

Why It's Important?

Travelers to tropical and subtropical regions are at risk of contracting dengue, particularly in areas with frequent or continuous transmission. Popular tourist destinations such as the Caribbean, Central America, and Southeast Asia are among the affected regions. Symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headache, and rash, with severe cases potentially leading to hospitalization. The CDC advises travelers to be vigilant, as dengue outbreaks can occur unexpectedly, even in areas with sporadic or uncertain risk.
