Anticipating Water Risks: A Key Challenge for Global Agriculture

Water-related challenges are becoming a critical issue for the future of agriculture worldwide.
According to a report by Farms.com, farmers are increasingly facing risks such as droughts, floods, declining water quality, and degraded freshwater ecosystems.

Why It's Important?

The growing water risks pose significant threats to agricultural productivity and food security. Droughts, which are the most damaging natural hazard for agriculture, affect 11% of rainfed croplands and 14% of pasturelands globally. Additionally, over 60% of irrigated croplands are located in areas experiencing high water stress. These pressures not only threaten the livelihoods of farmers but also have broader implications for global food supply chains, potentially leading to increased food prices and reduced availability in vulnerable regions.
