• The Global Disaster Awareness and Coordination System (GDACS) has released a map detailing disaster alerts from the past four days. The report highlights ongoing droughts and forest fires globally, with specific attention to events classified as Orange or Red alerts. Additionally, Green alerts are included if the burned area exceeds 10,000 hectares or if the population within a 5 km radius surpasses 10,
• The European Commission Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC) produced the map, which also identifies new events, significant worsening of existing events, and the availability of new information products such as Global Drought Observatory Reports.

Why It's Important?

The ongoing droughts and forest fires pose significant risks to affected regions, including environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity, and threats to human populations. Areas with large burned zones or high population densities near fire sites are particularly vulnerable. The worsening of certain events, as indicated by a 0.5 increase in GDACS scores or higher alert levels, underscores the urgency of addressing these disasters.
