• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on August 31 and September 1, with thunderstorms and lightning expected to accompany the rain. The state is likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from August 29 to September
• Himachal Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh are also expected to receive significant rainfall during this period. A Western Disturbance and a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal are contributing to the intensified rainfall activity in the region.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand could lead to waterlogging, localised flooding, and landslides, particularly in low-lying and hilly areas. There is also a risk of disruption to road and rail traffic, as well as potential damage to crops, plantations, and infrastructure. Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain cautious and stay updated on weather advisories.
