10 Dead in Uttar Pradesh as Heavy Rainfall Continues
• At least 10 people have died and 17 others were injured in rain-related incidents across Uttar Pradesh on 26 September
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand as a weakening depression moves north-northwestward. The state recorded 19 times its normal rainfall in the past 24 hours, with districts like Farrukhabad, Kanpur Nagar, and Hardoi experiencing exceptionally high rainfall. The weather system is also expected to bring rain to other parts of central, eastern, and southern India.
Impact & Risks
The heavy rainfall has caused significant damage in Uttar Pradesh, including the destruction of 117 houses and harm to standing crops. Casualties were reported in districts such as Lakhimpur Kheri, Amethi, Barabanki, and Gorakhpur. The risk of flash floods remains moderate in some areas, and thunderstorms and strong winds have compounded the challenges. Other regions in central and southern India may also face disruptions due to ongoing rainfall.
