IMD Issues Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert for 19 States on September 3

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for September 3, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds of up to 65 kmph across 19 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi.
Cyclonic circulations are expected to develop over southern Uttar Pradesh, northern Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, north coastal Odisha, and Jharkhand.

Impact & Risks

The adverse weather conditions are expected to disrupt daily life in the affected states. Hilly areas face a heightened risk of landslides, while strong winds and hailstorms could damage crops and property. Eastern India is particularly vulnerable to lightning strikes. Fishermen operating in the Bay of Bengal and nearby coastal areas are at risk due to squally winds and rough seas. Urban areas may experience waterlogging and traffic disruptions due to heavy rainfall.
