The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced an AI-powered early warning system, named 'City Flood Alert,' to predict and mitigate the impact of flash floods in urban areas.
Initially launched in Vijayawada, the system provides a 48-hour advance outlook on heavy rainfall and a six-hour warning window for flash floods.

Impact & Risks

The system is expected to significantly reduce the impact of flash floods in urban areas, particularly in Vijayawada, which has faced challenges with the Budameru stream. By providing precise flood-risk modeling and early warnings, the initiative aims to protect lives, reduce property damage, and improve disaster preparedness across Andhra Pradesh. However, the effectiveness of the system will depend on its implementation and the responsiveness of local authorities.
