Above-Average Summer Temperatures Forecast for Washington State
US · Published May 30, 2026
The NOAA has released a new temperature outlook predicting a hotter-than-normal summer for Washington State.
The Pacific Northwest is expected to experience some of the highest above-average temperatures in the country, with the heat peaking during June, July, and August.
Normal summer highs typically reach the 70s°F (21-26°C) in the Seattle-Tacoma area and the 80s°F (27-32°C) in Spokane.

Why It's Important?

The forecasted heat could exacerbate risks of drought, wildfires, and heat-related illnesses. With only 53% of Washington households equipped with air conditioning, many residents may struggle to stay cool during prolonged heat waves. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, are particularly at risk. Outdoor activities may also become hazardous during peak heat periods.
