Above-Average Summer Temperatures Forecasted for Washington State
US · Published May 29, 2026
The NOAA has released a summer temperature outlook predicting significantly above-average temperatures across Washington State.
The Pacific Northwest is expected to experience some of the highest temperature anomalies in the country, with a 60-70% probability of above-normal temperatures in most areas.
The heat is anticipated to peak during June, July, and August, with temperatures in the Seattle-Tacoma area typically reaching the 70s°F (21-26°C) and Spokane seeing highs in the 80s°F (27-32°C).

Why It's Important?

The forecasted heat could exacerbate drought conditions and increase wildfire risks across the state. With only 53% of Washington households equipped with air conditioning, many residents may face challenges in staying cool. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, are at higher risk of heat-related illnesses. Outdoor activities may also become hazardous during peak heat periods.
