Widespread Rainfall Predicted Across India Over the Coming Week
IN · Published Sep 17, 2026
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across various regions of India over the next week.
Central India, including West and East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, is expected to experience scattered to widespread rainfall between 18-23 September.

Impact & Risks

The widespread rainfall is expected to benefit agricultural activities in regions dependent on monsoon rains. However, heavy rainfall may lead to localised flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions in daily life, particularly in low-lying areas. Thunderstorms and lightning accompanying the rain could pose risks to outdoor activities and infrastructure. The rainfall deficit of 15% recorded through 17 September highlights the uneven distribution of monsoon rains, which could impact water reservoirs and agricultural yields in some areas.
