Wildfires are currently burning across southern Georgia and northeast Florida due to extreme drought conditions. Georgia is experiencing moderate to exceptional drought across 98% of its land, leading to an increase in wildfires. Florida has 135 wildfires affecting nearly 21,000 acres. The Georgia Forestry Commission has issued its first-ever mandatory burn ban, prohibiting outdoor burning in regions below Atlanta, from Harris County to Columbia County, for at least 30 days. The Pineland Road fire in Clinch County, Georgia, has spread to nearly 9,000 acres and is only 10% contained.
