A new species of moon jellyfish, *Aurelia profunda*, has been discovered in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana, expanding the region’s known jellyfish species count from three to four. Scientists from Texas A&M University at Galveston made the identification during a recent offshore expedition. The discovery highlights the vast, unexplored biodiversity of the ocean.
