Smoke from wildfires in South Georgia and Florida has drifted into the Atlanta metropolitan area, causing a noticeable haze and prompting air quality alerts. The fires, fueled by ongoing drought conditions, have consumed nearly 30,000 acres and are largely uncontained. The Georgia Forestry Commission attributes the fire's origin to machinery use, and a state of emergency has been declared for 91 counties in Georgia.
