Afghanistan is currently grappling with severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, storms, and lightning, which have triggered widespread flooding and landslides across the nation. According to the Disaster Management Authority, these events have tragically resulted in 77 deaths and 137 injuries over the past 10 days. The extreme weather has caused extensive damage to critical infrastructure, with 793 homes completely destroyed, leaving countless families displaced and vulnerable. Additionally, 2,673 homes have suffered varying degrees of damage, further exacerbating the housing crisis. The transportation network has also been severely affected, with approximately 337 kilometers (210 miles) of roads rendered unusable, hindering connectivity and disrupting supply chains throughout the country.
