Lake Michigan Beach Advisories Issued Due to High Waves and Rip Currents
Global · Published May 2, 2026
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued beach advisories for Lake Michigan due to expected high waves and dangerous rip currents.
According to the NWS, conditions are expected to deteriorate, with waves reaching heights of 6 to 8 feet.

Why It's Important?

Rip currents are powerful channels of water moving away from the shore, and it's crucial to know how to escape them. If caught, don't panic; swim parallel to the beach until out of the current, then swim back at an angle. If unable to swim, float and call for help. Always check the weather and beach conditions, heed warnings, and swim at guarded beaches.
