An Air Quality Alert has been issued for a significant number of counties in South Carolina as smoke from ongoing wildfires in southern Georgia continues to impact the region. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has announced the alert, which will remain in effect until Thursday. The extensive list of affected counties includes Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Georgetown, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lee, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Sumter, Union, and Williamsburg.
