Severe flooding after intense kona low storms
Hawaii's north shore is facing significant recovery challenges after severe flooding caused by two intense kona low storms. The first storm, in the week of March 10, brought heavy rains that flooded farms and destroyed crops. A second, more dangerous storm followed, inundating neighborhoods and requiring over 200 rescues. The damage is extensive, with statewide estimates reaching $1 billion. Farmers on Oahu, including Blake Briddell and Brit Yim, have suffered substantial losses as water levels rose rapidly, submerging fields and leaving a thick layer of mud that complicates cleanup efforts. The Hawaii Farm Bureau reports that over 300 farms have incurred approximately $17.5 million in damages.
