The USGS reported increased volcanic activity since Monday, April 20, but no immediate threat to nearby communities has been identified.

Kīlauea erupts, sends lava fountains high
Kīlauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park erupted again early Thursday, marking the 45th eruptive episode since December 23, 2024. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the eruption commenced just after 1:30 a.m., sending lava fountains soaring as high as 1,000 feet into the air. Ash and gas plumes ascended to an estimated 16,500 feet above the summit.
