The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for elevated to critical fire weather conditions across the Plains and Southeast, driven by forecasts of over 100 record or near-record temperatures in the Southwest and southern United States this weekend. From March 15 to 26, over 100 monthly and 700 daily records have been broken or tied, underscoring the severity of the ongoing heat wave.
