Georgia fire doubles amidst drought conditions
According to local officials, the Highway 82 fire in southern Georgia has doubled in size over the weekend. The fire, which was first identified on April 20, is currently affecting Brantley County, about 100 miles southwest of Savannah. As of April 27, the fire has consumed over 20,000 acres and is only 6% contained. The situation is complicated by record drought conditions in the Southeast, which are fueling the flames and contributing to poor air quality throughout the region.
