Dry air and sun raise fire risk
Connecticut is under a high alert for brush fires this Tuesday due to the combination of dry air and sunny weather. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has identified that the state is in its spring fire season, typically lasting until mid-May. The forecast predicts sunny conditions with temperatures around the lower 50s°F (10°C). Although wind speeds are expected to be light, reaching gusts of up to 10 mph, the critical factor is the very low relative humidity, anticipated to drop to approximately 20% by the afternoon. This dryness increases the flammability of potential fuels, such as dry leaves and grass, significantly raising the risk of fires.
