The rapid and intense rainfall, exceeding two inches in just one hour, overwhelmed the area's drainage systems, leading to widespread street closures, basement flooding, and waterlogged parks. According to the HF Chronicle, the Dixie Highway viaduct and other low-lying areas experienced substantial flooding, disrupting traffic and causing property damage. Homewood Public Works Director Josh Burman explained that the drainage infrastructure couldn't handle the sudden influx of water.
