7.5 magnitude quake hits Japan, tsunami warning
A significant earthquake, measuring 7.5 in magnitude, has struck off the northeastern coast of Japan, leading the Japan Meteorological Agency to issue a tsunami warning. The warning anticipates waves reaching up to three meters in Iwate Prefecture, as well as parts of Hokkaido and Aomori. Other areas in northeastern Japan are under advisory for potential one-meter tsunamis. The US Geological Survey initially reported the earthquake at a magnitude of 7.4, revealing a minor discrepancy in the measurements. Tsunami waves have already been detected, with a 0.8-meter wave impacting Kuji Port and a 0.4-meter wave at Miyako Port, both in Iwate Prefecture. In response, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has strongly advised residents in the affected regions to evacuate without delay.
