Alert rescinded for 25 counties, but caution urged
The South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) has rescinded the Red Flag Fire Alert for 25 counties, initially implemented statewide due to dry and windy conditions conducive to wildfires. However, the alert persists for Richland County and areas further west, where high-risk conditions remain. Barnwell County represents the southernmost boundary where the alert is still in effect. Despite the lifting of the alert in many counties, the SCFC strongly advises residents to exercise utmost caution when engaging in outdoor burning activities, as the conditions that triggered the initial alert—dry vegetation and strong winds—continue to pose a significant threat.
