Coast Guard rescues Alaskans stranded in ice
The U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescued a group of four people, including three adults and one child, after their boat became trapped in ice during a seal hunting expedition in Alaska. The rescue operation was initiated following a report from the Alaska State Troopers and was particularly challenging due to severe weather conditions, including near-zero visibility, blowing snow, and icing. Air Station Kodiak deployed both a helicopter and an airplane to navigate the treacherous conditions and reach the stranded party. The group had been stuck for more than 24 hours before the Coast Guard successfully transported them back to the village of Chefornak.
